Journey Through Memory Lane
Yesterday I talked about how I unlocked the power of designing in me. I have piles of designs at hand now ,I kept working in batik [these things were happening in the years from 2004 to 2007 ,I shifted to Mumbai
I had no idea what I was going to do with the skills I had acquired. The sketches, the motifs—they felt like pieces of a puzzle, but I still didn’t know what the final picture would look like. Then, one day, I made a bold decision: I booked an exhibition hall. With little experience in organizing such events, I decided to showcase my batik portraitures in a group exhibition.
What I didn’t anticipate was how much work was involved. Organizing an exhibition, I soon discovered, was almost like planning a wedding. There were so many details to consider—booking the venue was just the beginning. I had to design and print invitations, make sure they reached the right people, invite a chief guest, and ensure that my family, friends, and colleagues were all in attendance. Then came the logistics: arranging caterers for tea and refreshments, coordinating with the venue staff, and ensuring everything ran smoothly on the big day.
As overwhelming as it was, it was also exhilarating. Seeing my work displayed in a gallery for the first time was surreal. The moment I had been working towards for months had finally arrived. Friends, family, and even complete strangers admired my batik paintings. Conversations filled the space, and the atmosphere was electric.
To my surprise and joy, I even managed to sell a couple of paintings! That feeling of validation—knowing that someone saw value in the art I had created—was indescribable. It was the moment when I realized that all the hard work, the late nights, and the countless sketches had been worth it.
Though the exhibition was a whirlwind of emotions and logistics, it taught me so much. I came out of it not only as a more confident artist but also as someone who now understood the behind-the-scenes of putting together such an event. It was the beginning of a new chapter in my artistic journey.
